Event on “Protecting War-Affected Civilians: Responding to Today’s Challenges” on Monday, 13 December 2010

The Ralph Bunche Forum will hold an event entitled “Protecting War-Affected Civilians: Responding to Today’s Challenges” on Monday 13 December 2010 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. The event is sponsored by the Ralph Bunche Institute for International Studies and will take place at the City University of New York Graduate Center, 365 Fifth Avenue (at 34th Street ) in Skylight Room 9100.

Responding to recent events, including November’s Security Council debate on protecting civilians during and after conflict, this event will focus on how the international community can not only shield civilians (particularly displaced persons) from physical violence, but also empower them to demand full recognition of their rights under international humanitarian, human rights and refugee law. The event will be presented by Ms. Natasha Yacoub from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Commentators at the event will include Mr. Robert Young from the International Committee of the Red Cross and Mr. Max Kelly, Independent Research Consultant.

Please note that the seating is free but limited. RSVP is required to: ekaretny@gc.cuny.edu.
